*The Rolex Explorer Reference 16550 is a transitional model that is often overlooked by collectors, despite its charm and unique functionality. This watch is a definite upgrade from its predecessor, ref 1655. The new and improved reference features an independent hour hand which can track a second time zone. It accomplishes this by utilizing the same caliber 3085 movement as the GMT Master Ref 16760. The watch resembles the GMT Master in many ways, minus its stainless steel bezel. The white dial features white gold hands and hour marker surrounds and may feature rail wording on the bottom half of the dial (the rail dial feature meaning that the “C” of Chronometer lines up with the “C” of Certified on the line below). A paint defect has caused many original white dials to turn a charming cream color, making them more unique and rare.
